The Mobile Marketer For years, I dreamed of someday traveling the country full-time in an RV...
I'd been an RV enthusiast since, as a kid, I watched the first KOA Campground being built near my home in Billings, Montana. Graduate school and later, a career with a successful B2B advertising agency, took me to Chicago. But every vacation or long holiday weekend took me out of town in search of a new adventure.
Over the years, the agency grew and so did my rigs -- from a tent, to a slide-in on a small pickup, to a 20' travel trailer, then a 27'. In 1993, I reached the position of Senior VP, Creative. In 1997, I reached the end of my tolerance for office politics, churn-and-burn talent management, and "managing" instead of creating. So I struck out on my own as a freelance marketer. The agency I left became my first client.
Soon I was not only doing more of the work I loved, I also had more time for RVing. Sometime in 2000, I realized that I hadn't seen a client or a creative partner face-to-face in months. Modern digital production meant that a phone, fax and Internet connection were all I needed to help clients create top-quality, effective marketing communications, on time and on budget. So why not put my home office on wheels and realize my dream?
In 2002, I hit the road. And I've never looked back... Mary June |
